Surgical technicians course ends at SKMCH&RC

LAHORE: The first ever certificate course of Surgical Technicians introduced by Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre concluded on a certificate distribution ceremony at the Hospital. Ten surgical technicians who have completed one year training received their certificate by Dr. Faisal Sultan, CEO SKMCH&RC and Ms. RehanaIlaahi, Director Nursing SKMCH&RC.

Nursing Division at SKMCH&RC is offering a one year training program for Surgical Technicians. The course stresses the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge. A Surgical Technician is an allied health professional whose primary job is to assist surgeons as scrub and/or circulatory person. They possess knowledge and skills in sterile field and aseptic techniques. The overall aim of the course is to prepare technicians who are able to integrate theory into practice, apply critical thinking skills and provide safe patient care. The course provides a properly balanced mix of theoretical knowledge in the class room as well as psychomotor skills practice in operating room setting.

The 1-year Training program for Trainee Surgical Technicians consists of 46 weeks, divided into two semesters of 23-weeks in duration, which assists to implement the curriculum in a gradual and uniform manner. Out of 23 weeks, 21 weeks are reserved for theory classes and practical sessions.

With the core mission of providing state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facility to cancer patients, SKMCH&RC offers various training programs in the field of nursing, medical technology, allied health specialist, Fellowship and Resident Training Program for Medical Staff. The institute has trained several oncologists and physicists who went on to become the rising stars of oncology and professionals in cancer treatment.
