Swiss tourists visit Kalash valley

CHITRAL: A couple from Switzerland visited the Kalash valley and enjoyed the beauty of serene spots and the indigenous culture of Kalash people. In-charge Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in Chitral, Zarin Khan, briefed the tourists on the religious rites, local culture, traditions, tourist attractions and various festivals, particularly the Chilimjusht or Joshi festival before leaving for the scenic valley.

 They were also told about the history and museum showcasing the artwork of indigenous Kalash culture and heritage. The tourists were informed that the Chilimjusht festival was normally celebrated in May simultaneously at the three Kalash valleys of Bamburet, Birir and Rumbur. It marks the arrival of spring and summer seasons and provides an opportunity to the visitors to witness the lifestyle of the Kalash people. They were told that this year the local people were very enthusiastic and impatiently waiting for the festival to celebrate it in a befitting manner.

The local people, including men, women and children warmly welcomed the tourists, extended hospitality, showcased artwork and presented them gifts. The tourists will leave for Chitral city to visit museum, Shahi Fort, bazaars and culture of the local people.
