Taliban breakaway group welcomes Ulema conference in Saudi Arabia
KABUL: Taliban breakaway group led by Mullah Muhammad Rasool has welcomed the OIC ulema conference and thanked Saudi Arabia for arranging conference on Afghan peace.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Taliban breakaway group hoped that Jeddah conference would yield positive results for Afghan issue and help in bringing an end to the occupation of Afghanistan.
It regretted that such conferences were held in different Muslim countries in the past but no effective efforts of these meetings were seen.
The Mullah Rasool-led group asked religions scholars to interpret the occupation of Afghanistan and ongoing war in the light of teachings of Islam. Participants of the conference termed the ongoing war in Afghanistan as Fetna and asked Taliban to stop war and join the peace process.
Taliban led by Sheikh Haibatullah, opposed the conference. Similarly, key Pakistani cleric Maulana Samiullah also opposed the conference and termed it a US process. He termed war in Afghanistan as justified jihad and urge Muslim scholars not attend the OIC conference in Saudi Arabia.
