Taliban faction condemns bombing

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Condemning the ambulance bomb blast in Kabul on Sunday (January 28), a Taliban faction under the leadership of Mullah Muhammad Rasool said the attack was against the teachings of Islam and humanity.

In a press release available with Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), the Taliban faction known as High Council of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan flayed the bombing and termed it unjustifiable and against Islam and humanity.

Offering condolence to the bereaved families, the High Council of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan prayed to Allah to give speedy recovery to the injured people.

The press release stated that such attacks were against the teaching of Islam and directives of Taliban founder Mullah Muhammad Omar.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden ambulance near the old interior ministry building in Kabul city yesterday, killing and injuring hundreds of people.

The attack was widely condemned on the national and international level.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak said while addressing a press conference in Kabul today that two ambulance vehicles were used in the attack.

He said 103 people were killed and 235 more sustained injuries in the bombing. Most of the victims were civilians, including women and children, he added.

Deputy interior ministry spokesman Nusrat Rahimi yesterday said four persons had been arrested on suspicion of connection with the incident.

He said the Haqqani network had carried out the attack.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying hundreds of people were killed and injured in the bombing.

The Afghan government has already announced to observe national mourning throughout the country today in the wake of the recent bloodiest attacks in Kabul, Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces.

The national flag would fly at half mast Afghanistan and on all the Afghan political offices outside the country.
