FARAH CITY: Four policemen were killed in a predawn attack by Taliban on a check-post in western Farah province on Sunday, an official said.
Five more police personnel were captured by the assailants, who stormed the security post on the outskirts of Farah City, the provincial capital a public representative said.
Provincial council member Dadullah Qane told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents attacked the police post at 2am and seized it as a result of a two-hour clash.
He said reinforcements rushed to the site in a bid to retake the checkpoint from the guerrillas. In the firefight, four policemen lost their lives while five others were seized by the Taliban.
Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed credit for the attack. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters killed five policemen and caught as many alive.
