KHOST: Taliban gunmen killed seven Afghan police and wounded another in Zurmat district of Paktia province of Afghanistan, officials said Monday.

The Taliban gunmen attacked a police post in the Neknam area of Zurmat district on the night between March 10 and 11, killing seven police and wounding another, Kaftan Ikhlas, administrator of the district, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

He said the post fell to the Taliban as the reinforcement could not reach the post timely due to Taliban ambushes.

Sardar Wali Tabassum, spokesman of Kunduz police, meanwhile, said two cops were killed and another wounded in the attack.

He said the clash also left four Taliban gunmen dead and three others wounded, adding another five Taliban were killed when NATO aircraft engaged them in the same area.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that seven police were killed in attack on the post while numerous others were killed and wounded in ambush.

He would not disclose Taliban casualties.
