SHEBERGHAN: The Taliban publicly lashed five persons, including a woman in Kohistan district, officials said on Tuesday.
Faryab governor’s spokesman Javed Baidar told Afghan Islamic Press that they had received reports about Taliban lashing five persons, including a woman in the presence of public in Qadoghak area in Kohistan district.
“A woman was accused of having illegitimate relations with a Taliban member. The Taliban commanders have exempted their fighters from punishments. They lashed the woman and her family members,” he said. The incident was currently under investigation, he added.
Meanwhile, Kohistan district governor Abdul Rehman Panah said a man had accused his daughter-in-law of having illicit relations with a man in the area. He had handed over the matter to Taliban. As the man could not prove the allegations in front of Taliban’s judge, he was handed out 80 lashes.
The Taliban also indicted the woman and her husband. Similarly two more persons were also lashed in connection with separate incidents.
It is pertinent to mention here that Taliban publicly lashed a boy and girl in Kunduz province few days ago. They were accused of having telephonic contacts with each other. The Taliban have not said anything in this regard so far. However, they often claim responsibility for such incidents.
According to human rights officials, such orders are always given by Taliban’s open courts. They believed that the Afghan government is responsible to stop such incidents.
