KABUL: The security forces carried out a series of airstrikes in southern Helmand and north-western Badghis provinces of Afghanistan killing or wounding at least nine militants.
According to informed military sources, the security forces carried out an airstrike in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province in the past 24 hours.
The sources further added that the airstrike killed at one Taliban fighter.
The security forces also conducted an airstrike in Bala Murghab district of Badghis province killing at least 6 Taliban fighters.
The airstrike also wounded two Taliban fighters and destroyed one vehicle, the sources added.
Both Badghis and Helmand are among the relatively volatile provinces in north-western and southern parts of Afghanistan.
Taliban militants are active in some remote and restive areas of the two provinces.
The anti-government armed elements often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities in the two provinces.
Meanwhile, the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against both groups in the two provinces.
Similarly, the US forces also conduct regular airstrikes in restive districts of the two provinces to suppress Taliban and other anti-government militants. (Khaama Press)
