PESHAWAR: Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Shahram Khan Tarakai has stressed need for adopting new innovative ideas to bring positive changes in the city and provide better municipal services to the residents.
A detailed presentation by the Water and Sanitation Company Peshawar Chief Executive Officer Khanzeb Khan was given to the Minister Local Government about the core functions of the Company during his maiden visit to the Company’s head office here on Monday.
The minister was briefed about the present capacity of the Company, its achievements, future plans and challenges. Secretary LG&RD Syed Jamaluddin Shah, Chairman Board of Directors Tahir Azeem, Boar Members, Senior Management staff of WSSP and CEO’s of WSSC’s Kohat, Mardan, Abbottabad, D.I.Khan and Swat were also present.
On the occasion, Chairman BoD raised the issue of expending WSSP jurisdiction gradually to all 92 Union Councils of Peshawar and handing over of municipal services in Hayatabad and University Town area under the international practice of ‘one city one company’ back to the WSSP, so that the residents could be provided better municipal services with defined responsibilities.
The minister said that after evaluating performance of various stakeholders a decision will be taken in this regard.
The minister was also informed about the survey being conducted for the installation of water meters in car wash stations in the city, ensuring regular clean drinking water supply to households and recent activities against water bills defaulter and recovery process to boost up revenue of the company.
The installation of solar panels over the Tube wells in Peshawar city was also came under discussion where the minister instructed to look into the feasibility of the idea. He also urged to crate mass awareness regarding conservation of water and disposing of solid waste at proper places by the citizens.
While appreciating WSSP services during eid-ul-adha, the minister LG&RD Shahram Khan Tarakae also instructed to ensure merit based recruitment so that competent people could be hired leading towards ultimate development and strengthening of the department.
