PESHAWAR: The Planning & Development Department of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with technical assistance from The Sub-National Governance (SNG) Programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the UK, organized a technical orientation session on Planning & Budgeting for Elected Representatives of the Newly Merged Districts of Orakzai and Hangu. 31 officials, including women and minorities attended the session, held at Hangu’s DC office.
The orientation aimed to equip the elected local representatives with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively perform their duties under the new local government system. The workshop was the first of its kind in the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and focused on development planning, budget making process, and budget execution.
The attendees included Chairmen of Tehsil Councils, Hangu, Thall, as well as Lower Orakzai and Upper Orakzai of District Orakzai.
The Chief Guest, DC Hangu, Mr. Fazle Akbar, appreciated the SNG programme for providing capacity building support to District Hangu. He emphasized the importance of strengthening public institutions, enhancing the quality of governance, and improving service delivery.
The SNG programme works towards achieving these objectives by providing technical assistance and capacity building to support the government in implementing policies and reforms at the provincial and local levels. Its goal is to strengthen democracy, promote economic growth and reduce poverty in Pakistan through governance reforms and service delivery improvement.
This technical orientation session is a step towards achieving the SNG programme’s objectives and will help elected representatives of the Newly Merged Districts of Orakzai and Hangu to perform their duties effectively under the new local government system.
