Terrorism cases: Imran Khan submits response to police

ISLAMABAD (NNI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has on Wednesday submitted his statement before the police in all four terrorism cases filed against him during the sit-in.

In the response submitted before the police, the PTI chief maintained that the cases filed by the government were politically motivated. He stated that protest was a legal and political right and not a crime. He requested the cases to be dismissed.

The statement submitted in the Secretariat police station by Imran Khan’s lawyers states that Khan is the chairman of the ‘biggest political party’ in the country and his sit-in was against money-laundering and corruption prevalent in the country.

Imran Khan added that the protest was peaceful and the workers were unarmed.

It is pertinent to mention here that an anti-terror court had accepted Imran Khan’s bail plea in SSP Junejo attack case, attack on parliament case, attack on PTV case and forcefully freeing workers from police custody case.

SSP Asmatullah Junejo was attacked by the protestors during 2014 sit-in. One of the attackers in the picture can be seen wearing a PTI flag around his neck.

An infamous audio tape of Imran Khan talking to PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi had also surfaced after the sit-in where Imran and Arif Alvi could be heard discussing the attack on Pakistan Television (PTV) building. On October 14, 2017, Imran Khan had stated that his call with Arif Alvi had been tapped by Intelligence Bureau (IB). Critics termed it as a confession of involvement in the attack. Previously, both Imran Khan and Arif Alvi had declared the audio tape forged.
