Terrorists killed in Hayatabad planning attacks on political leadership, claims CCPO

PESHAWAR:  The Capital City Police Officer Qazi-Jamil-ur-Rehman claimed that terrorists who were killed in a joint operation of Pak Army and police personnel at Phase VII of Hayatabad were running a full fledge network and they were planning to target political leadership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This was said by CCPO while talking to media persons here on Monday evening at Central Police Office Peshawar. He was accompanied by officials of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and SSP operation.

CCPO informed media that the forensic tests proved that the killed gang members were involved in a number of terrorists attacks carried out in Hayatabad township including attack on Judge of Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan Marwat.

He further added that the forensic tests proved that the waepons used in attack on PHC judge and those seized from house where the terrorists were taking refuge are same

He also shared with journalists some telephonic transcripts retrieved from the mobile phones of killed terrorists which indicate that they were planning for terrorist attacks and searching for targets.

In one communication, the terrorists were found racking PTI Youth Convention in Hayatabad attended by provincial ministers.

The terrorists group comprised of five members and is headed by Amjad Ali alias Ajmal. Another member identified as Imran Afghani alias Qari was a suicide bomber while remaining are Tariq Usman alias Haji, Murad Khan alias Zahoor, Feroz Shah alias Gulab Shah and Saeed alias Babu.

The last terrorist, Saeed alias Babu is arrested alive and is in injured condition who is getting treatment, Police chief added.

Disclosing other details, CCPO said group commander; Amjad Ali is resident of Khyber Agency and have travelled to Afghanistan five times. He was also deported from Greece in 2019.

The suicide bomber, Imran Afghani had recently arrived from Afghanistan on his passport on March 22. 2019.

The explosive seized from the house was of high quality and weighted about 60 kg packed in an IED and a booby trape.

The explosive exploded during bid of BDU to defuse which also resulted in destruction of the house, CCPO added. Qazi Jamil also informed that the terrorists obtained house on rent through forge documents by using CNICs of some other people.

CCPO said intelligence agencies were keeping a vigil on the group and after getting credible evidences raided the house which resulted in exchange of firing and a full fledge operation resulting in martyrdom of two security officials and killing of five terrorists.

CCPO also rejected claims that killed persons were not terrorists and were trapped by Police. He said they kept on retaliating fire with security forces for 17 longs hours.

The relatives of the group members were also invited and request were made through them to surrender but they kept on retaliating.

CCPO said security forces wanted to arrest group members alive so that maximum information could be obtained from them, but retaliation and exchange of firing resulted in their killing.
