LAGHMAN: Laghman residents celebrated the third anniversary of Dr. Mohammad Hassan Kakar, a former researcher and history writer at Qarghayi district in Laghman province.

Maryam Kakar, wife of Dr. Kakar said: “He was always busy with books and pens, he did not interfere with the housework, and he was always saying ‘I am working for Afghanistan.’”

Kawun Kakar, son of Dr. Kakar said, “his books and other written works will come to his tomb and join him there.”

Meanwhile, local officials from Nangarhar and Laghman provinces also gathered in Mehtralam city to remember Dr. Kakar.

Shah Mahmood Meyakhail, Nangarhar’s governor, said: “The knowledge to bring history to light increases the love for the country and this cause serves the country, but today such activity cannot be found.”

Mohammad Asif Nang, Laghman’s governor, said: “All of his story connects the present to the past and we know that this connects us to the future—this is a great occupation.”

Lal Pacha, a university professor, said that Dr. Kakar was the only history writer in Afghanistan that is very famous in other countries, too. “He recognized the country, recognized the people, recognized the region and every person who does so is a hero,” added Lal Pacha.

Kakar was born in 1928 in Laghman province.

He held a bachelor’s degree from Kabul University, a master’s degree in philosophy, and a PhD in history from the University of London. He also studied in the US.(TOLOnews)
