Washington does not intend to make concessions to Moscow on security issues, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said. In his opinion, progress is possible only on the basis of mutual steps. As noted in the State Duma, one should wait for a written response from the American side to proposals for security guarantees. At the same time, the Federation Council believes that the United States is trying to maintain the current alignment of forces in the field of strategic stability, which categorically does not suit Russia. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that Moscow was observing Washington’s attempts to drag out the discussion of initiatives on the issue of security guarantees.
The statement of the representative of the State De-partment that Washington does not intend to make any concessions to Moscow on security issues does not hold water, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev told RT.
He noted that the current situation was modeled by the West, primarily by the Americans, in their favor over the past three decades: at the initiative of the United States, NATO was expanding, and new weapons systems were being deployed in Europe. At the same time, Russia has not done anything in all this time in violation of the agreements with the alliance, he specified.
“All of our military activities take place within our own national borders,” Kosachev said.
“If the Americans now offer us to accept the current situation as a starting point from which we will have to, as they say, dance in the future, of course, this in no way can suit the R-ussian side. This is abso-lutely not a solution to tho-se colossal problems that have accumulated in Eur-ope at the global level as a result of the West’s consistent attempts to change the balance of power in the field of strategic stability in its favor,” the parliamentarian stressed.
Alexei Chepa, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, called the words of the US administration representative somewhat strange, since it is not clear what exactly Washington means by concessions.
“When we see – if we see – their written response to our proposal, then we can discuss it. This statement may be due to the fact that we clearly have the initiative and they are trying to somehow drift our proposal, ”said the RT interlocutor.
Earlier, US State Depart-ment spokesman Ned Price said that Washington would not make unilateral concessions on Russian security proposals. “The key point is that we will not make (one-sided. – RT ) concessions. Such steps must be taken on a reciprocal basis. That is, Russia, in turn, will have to somehow contribute to strengthening our security, our positions in terms of security,” he said.
According to him, there may be fruitful discussions between Russia and the United States, which will lead to the resolution of issues that cause mutual concerns in the field of security.
Price also confirmed that Washington could send Moscow this week a written response to security guarantee proposals.
“We have presented these ideas to our European allies and partners. We take note of their comments and will reflect those comments in our written response, which we will send as soon as we are ready to do so. I think it will work out this week, ”said the official representative of the State Department. On December 15, Mosc-ow sent draft agreements with the US and NATO on security issues to its Wes-tern partners. On December 17, the Foreign Ministry released both documents.
On the evening of December 30, a telephone conversation took place between Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, the main topic of which was the launch of a negotiation process to provide legal guarantees for Russia’s security. During the conversation, the Russian leader explained to the head of the White House the fundamental approaches underlying the documents sent by the US and NATO.
On January 10, the Russian delegation held talks on security issues with representatives of the United States, on January 12 – with NATO, on January 13 – with the OSCE. As Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, Washington has no reason to fear some kind of escalation scenario regarding Ukraine. Later, the Foreign Ministry pointed out that only attempts were observed on the American side to drag out the discussion of initiatives.
“Instead of pausing and focusing on answers to the substantive questions posed in the Russian documents, the White House and its Western allies have lau-nched an extremely toxic information and propaganda campaign that represents our country as an “aggressor”, an “enemy of civiliz-ed Europe” and a “threat” to international stability. All this, coupled with the incessant intimidation of “painful” sanctions, desi-gned to bleed the domestic economy and consolidate Russia’s systemic challen-ge,” the Foreign Ministry said in a comment.
On January 21, Sergei Lavrov and Anthony Blinken met. As a result, the Russian minister assured his American colleague that Russia had no intentions to attack Ukraine. At the same time, the head of the foreign policy department “clearly brought” to Blinken that ignoring Russia’s legitimate concerns related to the military development of Ukraine by NATO and the concentration of alliance forces near Russian borders would have “the most serious consequences.”
At the same time, on January 24, the North Atlantic Alliance announced an increase in its military presence in Eastern Europe, justifying this by the fact that Russia allegedly “continues to build up its military presence on the territory of Ukraine and near it.” In addition, the alliance said in a statement that the United States has also made it clear that it is considering increasing its military presence on the eastern flank of the military bloc.
The US and NATO are e-scalating tension around U-kraine, MEP Manu Pineda said in an interview with RT. “We are not interested in any wars. All this is a provocation by the United States and NATO, which they are carrying out in an attempt to reshape the world order, in which they are losing international influence, ”said the parliamentarian. He stressed that everything that is happening does not at all correspond to the interests of the people of Spain, nor the interests of the peoples of other EU countries.
“The governments of the EU countries and the EU itself are becoming a kind of servants of the US in this adventure and make decisions that run counter to the interests of their peoples,” Pineda added.
