Three ANA troops, 8 Taliban killed in Ghazni clash

KABUL: Three Afghan National Army (ANA) troops and eight Taliban gunmen were killed during a clash in the Qarabagh district of Ghazni province, officials said Saturday. The clash erupted after Taliban attacked an ANA Post in the Lewani Bazaar area of Qarabagh district, Muhammad Arif Noori, spokesman of Ghazni governor, told local media.

The firefight lasted for approximately four hours, leaving three ANA troops and eight Taliban dead and two ANA troops and 12 Taliban wounded, he added. He said the Taliban left behind bodies of their three fighters at the site of the clash.

The securing forces launched combing operation in the surrounding villages, Noor said. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that 15 Afghan troops were killed and another was seized by their fighters. He said the Taliban also seized several weapons while a Taliban fighter was killed in the clash.

Taliban gunmen attack security forces’ posts: Several policemen were injured as Taliban attacked Afghan security forces’ posts in two districts of Helmand province, sources said Saturday. The Taliban gunmen launched attacks on security posts in the Loway Bagh area of Nad Ali district yesterday’s afternoon, sparking heavy firefight, security sources told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The source said five national police were injured in the clash, adding the Taliban also attacked reinforcement force in Nad Ali-Marjah Dorahi, wounding two more cops. Exact count of casualties could only be ascertained with end of the fighting, the source said. The source said the Taliban also sought foreign forces’ air support.

Separately, the sources said, Taliban attacked a security post in the Sarband area of Greshk district yesterday’s evening, injuring a cop. An official of Lashkargah Emergency hospital, told AIP that several injured cops were brought to them, adding of the injured were in critical condition.
