Three local police dead, four hurt in Taliban attack

LASHKARGAH: A Taliban attack killed three local police and wounded four others in the Nawa district of Helmand province, elders said Tuesday.

The Taliban gunmen attacked Qasim Mama Post of local police in Ainak area of Nawa district, killing three police and wounding four others, Haji Attiqullah, chairman of Helmand’s social council, told Afghan media.

Haji Lala, commander of the same post, confirmed the attack, saying the Taliban fighters retreated on arrival of reinforcement.

There were also casualties to Taliban in the gunfight, he said, adding his one nephew was among the dead and two in the injured.

Taliban claimed the attack, saying a large number of police were killed and wounded in the clash.
