Tillerson shows concern over safe havens in Pakistan

KABUL: US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said that he will pressurize Pakistan to take strict action against the Taliban and other terrorist organization in the country.

This he said at Bagram airbase on Monday while paying a surprise visit to Afghanistan. He said that Islamabad needs to realize the reality that several terrorists organizations are finding safe heavens in the country and they needs to take action against it.

Tillerson added that US wants closer relationship and assist the Pakistan as we want more stable Pakistan and it is very important in the better interest of the region.

This was Tillerson’s first trip to Afghanistan as secretary of state. Tillerson headed to Iraq after which he will arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday.

Tillerson will likely meet with senior Pakistani leaders to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and remove the recent break in the relationship between the two ally’s countries.
