Timely election top most priority of government

KABUL: The leaders of national unity government have said election was the top most priority of the government and would be conducted on its schedule time.

This was said during a meeting held in Presidential Palace Thursday with President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani in the chair.

The meeting attended by 2nd Vice President Sarwar Danish, Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, ministers, representatives of political parties, foreign ambassadors and representatives of donor agencies discussed election security, voters registration, distribution of national identity cards, transportation of election material, political parties recommendations, public awareness and transparency in appointment of election workers in centre and provinces.

Participants of the meeting hailed peoples’ participation in the voter registration process and insisted on utilizing all resources, facilities and public awareness on participation in the election process.

Representatives of donor countries welcomed progress in the voter registration process and stressed on holding timely district council and parliamentary elections.

President Ashraf Ghani informed the meeting that the string of meetings with leaders, national and political personalities was underway and ulema, higher education institutions, civil society, media and youth networks’ representatives would also be engaged.

Voter registration for the upcoming district council and parliamentary election is underway in the country but facing security problems and threats in some provinces.
