TMAs does not need govt funds: Inayat Ullah

TIMERGARA: Terming the local government act, 2013 a big achievement the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister for local government and rural development Inayatullah Khan on Monday said the province revenue generation had reached to Rs 6 billion.

He was addressing a farewell dinner hosted by tehsils’ nazims in his honour at the Chakdara fishing hut here.

The function was attended by all tehsil nazims, naib nazims, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and tehsil municipal officers from all districts of Malakand division.

The provincial secretary local government Syed Jamal ud Din Shah, deputy secretary Muhammad Khaliq, Commissioner Malakand Syed Zaheer ul Islam, divisional president of tehsils’ nazimeen Saeed Ahmad Bacha and others addressed the gathering.

The commissioner awarded the minister with shield on his performance during the last five years.

The minister said the TMAs would not need government funds in future if the existing system was not disturbed.

He said that Malakand region had great importance owing to the CPEC, minerals and tourism opportunities. He said the Chakdara would be a hub of trade in future as it lied in the center of the region.

Other speakers lauded the efforts of the minister and said the coalition government had provided enough funds to local governments in the province.

They said the minister for LG and RDD had introduced the system that had enhanced the performance of tehsil governments. The nazims distributed traditional gifts among the guests on the occasion.

The minister said the tehsil nazims and TMAs should provide masses with basic facilities.

He said the nazims, naib nazims and TMOs were members of the same club and they should work in collaboration.

He said the local government system must be continued as it had been guaranteeing devolution of powers on gross root level.

Later on talking to local journalists the minister said he had a complete roadmap of development from Chitral to DI Khan and the MMA would implement it if came in powers in the province.
