LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to return to Pakistan by June 14.
While hearing the case on Wednesday (today) at the Supreme Court Lahore registry, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib said that the former president Pervez Musharaf should return to Pakistan by 2pm on Thursday and adding that the verdict in the case will be announced according to the law if Musharaf fail to follow the court orders.
Earlier in the month on June 7, Supreme Court had ordered the former president to appear before court and assured he would not be arrested upon appearance.
CJP remarked that Musharaf should come to the court if he is a real commando and adding that he should return to the country if he is brave.
Top judge added that the scrutiny of Musharraf’s nomination papers for the upcoming General Election 2018 would not be allowed if he failed to return to Pakistan.
Counsel of Pervez Musharraf informed the court that his client was ready to face the treason charges if he was given the guarantee to be protected.
The lawyer further said that Musharraf’s nomination papers were rejected in light of the Sindh High Court verdict. He argued that the verdict had been announced in his client’s absence.
