WASHINGTON (AA): President Trump’s homeland security adviser is on his way out just a day after National Security Adviser John Bolton took the resigns, the White House confirmed Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed Tom Bossert’s resignation in a statement.
“The president is grateful for Tom’s commitment to the safety and security of our great country.
Tom led the White House’s efforts to protect the homeland from terrorist threats, strengthen our cyber defenses and respond to an unprecedented series of natural disasters,” she said.
“President thanks him for his patriotic service and wishes him well.”
Bossert played a central role in preparing the administration’s response to a bevy of hurricanes that struck the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico last year, and just this weekend defended the president’s plan to deploy the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border. Bossert’s exit is just the latest in a growing string of high-profile White House departures for Trump.
On Sunday, Michael Anton, a spokesman for the National Security Council, resigned from his post.
The reason for Bossert’s resignation is not immediately clear, but Bloomberg News reported it is at the request of Bolton, the new national security adviser.
