F.P. Report
ISLAMABAD: The verdict in the Toshakhana case filed against former prime minister Imran Khan has been reserved by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
At the outset of today’s hearing, Barrister Ali Zafar, Imran Khan’s counsel, admitted that his client had sold at least four presents he had received during 2018-19.
During the hearing, an ECP member inquired about the source of income and money deposited to the Toshakhana to buy the gifts.
At this, Barrister Ali Zafar maintained that they are not willing to reveal this information to the ECP. He said that Imran Khan received gifts worth Rs1.7 million during 2019-20.
The details of the gifts received till 2021 have been provided in the reply, he added.
“The ECP scrutinises if it doubts any details, but in our case, the ECP didn’t raise any objection,” Barrister Zafar said.
He said that the receipt for the sale is in the income tax return records. “We declared the tax paid on an income of Rs58 million from the sale of gifts,” the lawyer maintained.
