Mexico City ( February 9, 2025): A devastating bus accident in southern Mexico has left 41 people dead, local authorities confirmed on Saturday. The crash occurred near Escárcega in Campeche state, where a passenger bus traveling from Cancún to Tabasco collided with a truck, igniting a massive fire that engulfed the vehicle.
According to the Tabasco state government, 38 passengers and two drivers perished, while the truck driver also lost his life. Images from the scene show the bus reduced to a charred metal frame, underscoring the intensity of the blaze.
Authorities are still working to recover remains, with sources reporting that only 18 skulls have been identified so far. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with bus operator Tours Acosta stating that it is cooperating with officials to determine whether speed limits were observed.
This tragedy adds to a series of fatal road accidents in Mexico, where poorly maintained roads and high-speed travel often contribute to deadly collisions.
