Transatlantic Quad FMs discuss Russian aggression

BERLIN: Secretary of State Antony Blinken met on Thursday, with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, and UK Minister of State for Middle East, North Africa and North America James Cleverly.
They discussed recent diplomatic engagements with Russia and joint efforts to deter further Russian aggression against Ukraine, including Allies’ and partners’ readiness to impose massive consequences and severe economic costs on Russia for such actions. Secretary Blinken affirmed our commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Secretary and his counterparts also reiterated the urgency of reaching an understanding on mutual return to full implementation of the Joint Compr-ehensive Plan of Action before developments in Iran’s nuclear program foreclose the possibility.
On Thursday at joint pr-ess conference with Germ-an Foreign Minister Annal-ena Burbock, US Secretary of State said that at his upcoming meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he would present to him the common position of Washington and its European allies on the need for a diplomatic settlement of the situation around Ukraine.
“<…> At a meeting with Foreign Minister Lavrov tomorrow [Friday] I will be able to present the common opinion, the general mood of the United States and our European allies and partners to find an opportunity to move forward further through diplomacy,” Blinken said.
The Secretary of State said that a stable and predictable relationship with Russia is in the interests of Germany and the United States.
“We know that Germany has significant ties with Russia and that Germany, like the United States, seeks a stable, predictable relationship with Russia. This is in our common interest,” the chief of American diplomacy said. According to him, Russia and the West are currently at a decisive stage. “No matter which path Russia chooses, it will find the United States, Germany and our allies united,” Blinken added.
