Transgender day observed

PESHWAR (APP): Blue Veins and TransAction Monday observed National Transgender Day of Remembrance to honor those who have lost their lives or experienced violence because of their gender identity or gender expression.
In a statement issued here by Blue Veins and TransAction said that the NGO along with sisters’ organizations are committed to continue support to transgender Pakistani and protecting their rights from harm and oppression. Since 2008, there have been 2,609 reported murders of trans and gender-diverse people.
In the Asia Pacific region while from January 2015 till date 53 transgender persons are killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only there are 522 cases of violence.
Meanwhile, Frazana Jan president of TransAction alliance has said that Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to recognize and memorialize the lives of trans people that have lost their lives due to society’s violence and ignorance towards trans people.
She said that this day sheds greater light on the devastating impacts of trans phobia and the collective difficulties and discrimination that trans people face throughout the country Program Coordinator Blue Veins, Qamar Naseem called for striving to create a more inclusive society. Our transgender loved friends and loves ones deserve to be safe in their homes, at work, and in their communities.
Coordinator Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network, Taimur Kamal said that Transgender Day of Remembrance reminds of the huge challenges and discrimination that trans people face in their day to day lives.
