‘Transgenders functional part of society’

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Shaukat Ali Yousafzai on Thursday said that provincial government was being taking positive and fecund steps for the rights and welfare of transgender.

Speaking at a seminar, held here at a private university, he said that government would soon launch various schemes of education, health, security and residence for transgenders.

He maintained that previous governments, for the last 30 years, ignored transgenders community and did not address their core issues.

“Instead of making institutions for women and transgenders the previous rulers ruined and weakened other departments and institutions,” he stated and added that their corruption has devastated the economy of the country.

He maintained that due poor and corrupt policies of Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif SUI Gas department faced a financial loss of Rs.154 Billion, PIA faced Rs.375 Billion, WAPDA faced Rs.1250 Billion financial, while their personal setups of sugar and steel mills kept growing. “The previous governments borrowed dollars from IMF to artificially maintain the dollar’s rate,” Shaukat stated, adding that it was their faulty policies which now being caused inflation in the country.

He said that government has different developmental projects, especially a number of projects were in hand and would soon started.

“Legislation was being in process for the protection of the rights of women,” he said and added that government was being empowering women in the province.

He asserted that hostels would soon be erected for the working women and opportunities for transgenders would soon be created.
