Trauma centers will be established in teaching hospitals: Buzdar

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar presided over a high-level meeting at his office in which establishment of trauma centers and recommendations about the launch of air-ambulance service were reviewed. The meeting decided to set up trauma centers in teaching hospitals.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that trauma centers will be established in teaching hospitals in the first phase and their number will be increased in phases. He directed that all the trauma centers should be made functional as human lives can be saved through prompt first-aid in case of accidents. He said that a report should be submitted about setting up of trauma centers at motorway M1 and M2. Similarly, the establishment of trauma centers near GT Road and other important road-networks should be reviewed as well.

An awareness program should be launched about observing traffic rules along with treatment facilities provided in the trauma centers, he added. The meeting also deliberated upon the proposal of setting up smart hospitals which will be interconnected through information technology for treating the patients. The air-ambulance service will not only be helpful in accidents but during emergency situations as well and the support of philanthropists will be welcomed, he added.

The meeting was told that a human being dies in accident after every 20 minutes and the number of road accidents has also been tremendously increased. A 13-member committee was constituted under the chair of Dr. Tahir Ali Javed for setting up modern trauma centers and air-ambulance. Dr. Tahir Javed also gave a briefing about the salient features of trauma centers and air-ambulance service.

Provincial ministers Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, Sami Ullah Ch., assembly members, chief secretary and others attended the meeting.

Meanwhile,  Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Wednesday directed to expedite the construction of houses under Naya Pakistan Housing project.These directives were issued by Buzdar while chairing a meeting in Lahore, to review the performance of Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency. The meeting was attended by officials concerned, who briefed the provincial chief executive about the so far progress made into the project. Speaking on the occasion, CM Punjab said Naya Pakistan Housing project will help low paid salary scale people to fulfill their dream of having their own house. He said construction of five million houses is a flagship project of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. Mr Buzdar said in first phase houses will be built in Lodhran, Chistian, Renala Khurd, while houses will be built in Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Chiniot in second phase.

Yesterday, the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works was informed that the government had identified sites in Islamabad and Quetta for the construction of houses under Naya Pakistan Housing project and formal work would start there soon. Minister for Housing and Works Tariq Bashir Cheema informed this to the committee which met here under the chairmanship of Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi.
