Washington, February 14, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to significantly increase military sales to India, stating that the U.S. would eventually provide F-35 stealth fighter jets. Speaking at a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump emphasized that military sales would rise by “many billions of dollars” starting in 2025.
However, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri clarified that while discussions are ongoing, the formal acquisition process for the F-35 has not yet begun. Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer, also confirmed that any such sale would be a government-to-government transaction.
India, which has traditionally relied on Russian arms, is looking to diversify its defense procurements. The country is expected to spend over $200 billion in military modernization over the next decade.
