Trump rips NY Times for not apologizing to him

WASHINGTON (AA): U.S. President Donald Trump slammed the New York Times on Monday for not personally apologizing to him for an editorial cartoon that ran in its international edition and was retracted over charges of anti-Semitism.

“The New York Times has apologized for the terrible Anti-Semitic Cartoon, but they haven’t apologized to me for this or all of the Fake and Corrupt news they print on a daily basis,” Trump said on Twitter.

The cartoon in question ran in the Times’ international edition Thursday and was pulled Saturday.

It depicts Trump in a yamaka, a Jewish skullcap, being led by a guide dog bearing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s likeness. The dog is wearing a collar with a blue Star of David pendant attached.

The Times issued a formal apology in an op-ed it published Sunday, which included an excerpt from an editorial note that called the decision to publish the “offensive” image “an error of judgment.”

“Such imagery is always dangerous, and at a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise worldwide, it’s all the more unacceptable,” Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy said.

The apology, which ran in print Monday, was not extended to the president, who said in his tweet that the newspaper has “reached the lowest level of ‘journalism,’ and certainly a low point in @nytimes history!”
