TTP commander wanted to police arrested in Maidan

TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a militant commander identified as Shehriyar s/o Gul, a close associate of TTP commander Miftahuddin alias Shabar, a resident of Atoo village who was involved in various anti-state activities in 2009. Briefing local journalists at the Lal Qila Maidan police station, SP investigation Mushtaq Khan, DSP Amjad Khan and SHO Imran said that during an intelligence-based operation the militant was arrested in a dramatic situation.
They said that one Kalashnikov, three chargers, 8 cartridges, two hand grenades and a bundle of electric wire were also recovered from his possession. The district police officer Irfanullah had tasked the police team to arrest the absconder. The officials said that during 2009 the TTP had taken control of most areas in Maidan. Later the Pakistan army after a military offensive restored lasting peace in the area while the majority of the TTP commanders fled away.
The SP investigation said that they got information that the militant had entered the area. A search operation was launched and the proclaimed offender was arrested from the Barjo Gat Mountain. He said the accused was involved in torching ten schools and other terrorist acts. He said the arrested PO was under interrogation and police hoped for more disclosures.
Also in the day the Maidan police arrested another accused Zahid s/o Juma Khan, a resident of Jam Dherai who was charged in killing one Nasir son of Saif-ur-Rehman a few days ago. The SHO Maidan said the deceased was riding a motorcycle along with his brother Adnan when the accused opened fire on them at Chalgazi area. As a result Adnan remained unhurt while his brother Nasir died on the spot. He said that police also recovered the arm used during the crime.
