Two Afghan national prisoners flee from Landi Kotal lockup
LANDI KOTAL: Two Afghan national prisoners detained at Torkham border fled from the jail here in Landi Kotal at the mid night of Thursday.
It is to be mentioned here that last day on tip-off National Logistic Cell (NLC) apprehended two Afghan citizens in Torkham, who were wanted to Islamabad police in various heinous crimes and handed over to Landi Kotal Khasadar officials.
The Levies force personnel while confirming the happen said that the prisoner arrived in the lockup at 11:50 pm and 12:15 am the two prisoners identified as Khalid and Fayaz,hailing from Laghman and Nengarhar provinces of Afghanistan, arrested in Torkham ran away through exhaust fan opening.
When LandiKotal sub-jail superintendent Akhtar Shah was contacted on the matter he said that the detainees were not handed over to the jail authority and were in the detention of the Khasadar officials.
“We cannot keep a person in the jail without warrant or proper First Information Report (FIR),” he added.
District Police Officer (DPO), Khyber Muhammad Iqbal took notice of the incident and appointed Abid Afridi as investigative officer who visited the Landi Kotal jail and collected evidence of the site.
Those who involved in the negligence would be dealt as per law, he added.
The locals expressed their dissatisfaction over the occurrence and said beside extra-security deployed at all entrances and exits, flee of detainees put question mark on the hollow claims of the security agencies.
They demanded of the authorities concerned to deploy capable police officials in the area to serve the masses.
