Two days training for journalists held in Swat

MINGORA: A-two days training workshop for Journalists on “Developing Journalistic Skills on ADR and Community Policing” by strengthening rule of law Program under UNDP with the financial support of Europe Union was held in a local hotel in Swat. Journalists from National Newspapers and Radio joined the training workshop from Peshawar, Islamabad, D I Khan and Swat.

In the training workshop the participants were informed that 62 Model police stations has been established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa included nine in Swat by UNDP with the financial support from EU and US-INL. They also provided technicalsupport to the Police stations, where now people of the area can be facilitated easily.

In every model police station there are four facilities available for the community, a women desk- where women police officer helps women when they came to the station. Muharra room with an IT equipped record room facility, investigation/interview room- where police interview accused as per international standards.

To bridge the gap between police and community, community policing concept has been introduced, that has been added in Police Act as Police liaison Committee’s, in which local representative were identified any misshape or any suspected activity and they informed the police of the area.

To strengthen ADR mechanism the programme also developed a ten days course for volunteer Paralegals with the collaboration of University of Malakand, where paralegal get training and they solve the problems of the community. On the second day journalists visited Model Police Station Rahimabad, where DSP City Swat,  Habib Ullah further explained the core functions of the police and how efficiently now they are facilitating their community.
