Two killed in Lyari for non-payment of extortion

KARACHI: Two people were killed and six others wounded in a firing incident here at Lyari town of Karachi on Tuesday.

According to police, a Lyari gangster Boobi had demanded extortion money of RS1million from a local resident, Raees Niazi, which he refused to give. “After the refusal the accused and his accomplice opened fire at the house of Raees as a result of which he died on the spot whereas in counter firing the accused also got wounded whereas his accomplice Fazal Dad was killed,” SSP Adeel Chandio told The Frontier Post.

According to police women among five passerby people also got injured during the exchange of firing. “The wounded persons were immediately shifted to civil hospital for treatment”, the police said.

According to police elder brother of Boobi, named as Mustafa had got killed in police encounter some time ago. The police have started investigation of the case.

The law enforcement agencies have been claiming to have completely restored peace in the highly troubled town of the city.

Rival groups had been fighting daily on streets Lyari before Rangers kicked off operation in congested and oldest town of the seaside Pakistan metropolis.

According to Rangers, most of the gang members have either been killed arrested or they have fled the town. The Tuesday incident has, however, raised alarm bell.
