Two-month countdown begins for Arghandi substation’s completion

KABUL (TOLONews): The spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Water informed TOLOnews that the construction of the 500-kilovolt Arghandi substation is set to be completed within the next two months.

Matiullah Abid, the spokesperson, highlighted that the project is currently advancing at a rapid pace. Once the construction phase is finished, the installation of the electrical equipment will commence.

He further noted that the acting Minister of Energy and Water, in a recent meeting with the heads of an Indian and a local company, underscored the importance of transferring the transformers and finalizing the handover of the 500-kilovolt Arghandi substation. He emphasized that these companies must undertake all necessary measures to ensure the timely delivery and proper transfer of the transformers.

“There were discussions with an Indian and a local company regarding the 500-kilovolt Arghandi substation. It is noteworthy that work on the mentioned substation is progressing rapidly, with the construction expected to be completed in the next two months, followed by the start of electrical equipment installation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Investment considers electricity a crucial resource for the growth of various sectors in the country and emphasizes further investments in energy production within Afghanistan.

Jan Agha Naveed, spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, told TOLOnews: “Energy is a very important issue. We must strengthen the energy sector and ensure that energy is provided for all the people of Afghanistan, both for residential and commercial purposes.”

Abdul Ghaffar Nizami, an economic analyst, said: “The electricity we import from abroad costs us millions of dollars annually. Therefore, it has become necessary to build standard substations in appropriate locations.”

Recently, the acting Minister of Energy and Water, during the inauguration ceremony of this project, has said that with the completion of this project and other projects included in this series, the possibility of importing up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan will be created, which will significantly address the electricity shortage problems in the country.
