U.S temporarily suspends visas for Turkey

ANKARA: The U.S. Embassy in Ankara has confirmed that they have taken decision to suspend all American citizen and visa services at missions in Turkey. The decision has been taken after convincing reports of possible terrorist attacks and kidnappings against U.S. citizens in Istanbul.

In an official statement, the U.S embassy stated that, “The U.S. Mission in Turkey has received credible reports of potential terrorist attacks and kidnappings against U.S. citizens and foreign nationals in Istanbul, including against the U.S. Consulate General, as well as potentially other locations in Turkey.” In addition, the U.S embassy has also given advice to the American citizens saying that they should remain highlight cautious where foreign nationals gather together.

The U.S embassy specified saying, they should stay alert in large office buildings and shopping malls. A U.S. embassy spokesperson told news agencies that the warning was issued as a result of ongoing assessment of security conditions. The spokesperson also thanked the Turkish government for ensuring the safety of Americans living in Turkey and Turkish citizens who visit our Embassy and Consulates.
