UET campus in Upper Dir inaugurated

PESHAWAR: Senior Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Khyber Pakhtunlhwa Inayatullah Khan performed the groundbreaking ceremony of Dir (Upper) Campus of University of Engineering Technology (UET) at Upper Dir on Monday.

The new campus would be a full satellite campus of UET Peshawar being constructed in the city.

Addressing at the occasion as Chief Guest, Inaytullah said, this event was an unprecedented milestone in the history of Dir Upper. He said that the realization of this campus was in fact part of the strategic vision of government to develop a campus and bring quality education to the people in their own city.

“During the past few years, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and especially the Malakand Division had seen the worst form of terrorism, depriving the people of everything of value. This campus will be a breakthrough in transforming their lives,” he said.

Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain said, UET Peshawar as a premier engineering university of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has tremendously contributed towards national development by producing well-trained engineers who are serving the needs of industry.

Though, UET Peshawar has already expanded to five districts in Abbotabad, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu and Jalozai, the facilities are still not enough to meet the increasing number of students from major districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Swat, Dir, Shangla, Bunir, Mardan, Swabi, Bannu, DI. Khan, Karak and eight tribal agencies.

Tariq Kamran DG HEC Regional Center Peshawar also pledged to ensure all possible support on behalf of HEC, for transforming this dream into reality.

MNA, Sajhibzada Tariqulah said, the political leadership of Dir is fully committed to bring higher education to the people.

The Project Coordinator, UET Peshawar Dir (Upper) Campus, Dr. Nasir  Zaman said, in order to establish the campus, Higher Education Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had already approved Rs. 2019.699 Million through ADP.

The campus would undertake the phase-wise designing and construction of two disciplines including Civil and Electrical Engineering Departments with a covering area of 200 Kanals in Darora area of Dir Upper.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in about three years, while classes will commence from September 2018 in a make shift building.
