BRUSSELS: While the Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is entering a new phase, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.  They discussed the latest military and political developments, with a particular emphasis on the recent counter offensive launched by Ukraine that confirms the determination of the Ukrainian people to defend their territorial integrity.

High Representative Borrell commended the courage of the Ukrainian armed forces and welcomed the encouraging reports that Ukraine is regaining control of more parts of its territory.

High Representative Borrell underlined that the overall strategy and the determined choices that were collectively agreed since 24 February in its response to Russia’s war, are working and will continue to be shown and amplified as Ukraine liberates the territories that have been captured by Russian forces.

High Representative Borrell and Foreign Minister Kuleba exchanged in particular on the ongoing military support worth €2.6 billion provided by the EU through the European Peace Facility. They also discussed the work on a possible EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine. On this, High Representative Borrell outlined the intensive efforts currently ongoing to define the technical parameters of this Mission, together with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, EU Member States and partners.

Foreign Minister Kuleba thanked the EU for the support, which was considered necessary for the recovery of Ukraine sovereignty and territorial integrity and the recognition by Russia of its political, economic and moral responsibility in the destruction of Ukraine.

High Representative underlined that there will be no fatigue when it comes to the EU support to Ukraine. Now more than ever, the EU will pursue its policies with strategic resolve, supporting Ukraine to fight back, pressuring Russia with sanctions and helping partners to face the consequences of the war in a spirit of solidarity.
