Ukraine’s Lyman town ‘completely cleared’ of Russian troops, says Zelenskyy

KYIV (AA): The Ukrainian town of Lyman in the Donetsk region has been “completely cleared” of Russian troops, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday.

“As of 12:30 p.m., Lyman is now fully cleared,” the state-run Ukrinform news agency quoted Zelenskyy as saying in a video address.

On Saturday evening, the Ukrainian president said that while “the Ukrainian flag is already (waving) in Lyman, Donetsk region,” the fighting was continuing in the port city of Ukraine.

Ukrainian soldiers began to enter the city on Saturday, according to the country’s Defense Ministry.

However, the Russian Defense Ministry Saturday announced that “allied troops” – the Russian army and the separatist forces in the region – had withdrawn to “more advantageous” areas from Krasny Port in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic due to the “threat of encirclement.”
