Umer should be in WC squad

KARACHI: The chairman of cricket committee, Mohsin Khan praised the young left-arm slow bowler, Umer Khan and said if he was the selector, he would have selected him for the upcoming World Cup. Khan, who represented Karachi Kings during the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League, impressed everyone with his intelligence and control over line and length.

“He has a confident body language, he has variations, he can take wickets and can also bowl to contain runs,” said Khan. “If you ask me I will seriously consider him for my 15-man squad.” The former stylish batsman said that a lot will depend on the kind of summer England has. If the conditions are dry, the spinners will come handy, while in overcast conditions, the pace bowlers will be useful.

Khan said that when selectors have gone for so many new names in the ODI series against Australia such as Muhammad Hasnain, he would have also tried fierce pacers, Haris Rauf and Muhammad Musa in the campaign. However, the former head coach and selector also said that the five-match series, which Pakistan lost by 5-0, could have been used to try team combinations, but Pakistan missed the opportunity.

“Australia made the most out of that series,” he said. “They attained the confidence, their players performed as well, Aaron Finch got the form along with [Glenn Maxwell] and their bowlers.” The chairman of the cricket committee feels that Pakistan do not have any problem at the moment, other than the opening slot and a finisher down the order. “We will have to develop Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan or Imad Wasim as proper all-rounders and we can only do that by assigning them that particular role,” he added.
