UN appreciated BISP for poverty alleviation: Kundi

MULTAN: Minister of State for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Faisal Karim Kundi said that the government has allocated more funds for Benazir Kafalat program. Addressing the press conference, he added that so far 8 lakh 72 thousand surveys have been completed in Benazir Dynamic Registry Centers.

He said that currently more than 8.9 million women are benefiting from the Benazir Kafaalat programme. Taking into account the economic conditions of the people, the Government of Pakistan and Chairman Pakistan People’s Party / Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have increased the quarterly installment of BISP by 25%.

Women receive their full amount and also get a receipt. He said that the entire world has faith in the Benazir Income Support Program, that’s why its budget has been increased by 40 billion despite the difficult economic conditions.

Talking about the dynamic registry center, he said that four dynamic registry centers have been established in Multan district where 13 counters are working.

In these offices women can get their new survey done and register their economic change. While at present more than 2 lakh 38 thousand families are being given scholarships under the Benazir Income Support Program in Multan district. He added that BISP has been recognized by the United Nations and other leading international organizations.

The Minister of State praised the performance of the staff of Benazir Income Support Program and directed them to serve the people as much as possible. Minister of State stated that government will continue economic assistance to thousands of families by providing income support. He said the number of beneficiary families would be increased to nine million under the Benazir Kafalat Programme till June.

BISP is internationally acclaimed programme and had been proved as the most successful social protection intervention for the most vulnerable communities of the country. He said the first ever dynamic survey had been launched to include more deserving beneficiaries and exclude the non- deserving ones.
