Un-employment Problem in America

United States Labor Department stated that more than 1 million Americans filed first-time unemployment claims for the 46th consecutive week, last week. There is no historical precedent for the ongoing rate of job losses in the U.S. The country is now just six weeks from going a full year with more than a million people filing for unemployment every week. In US history prior to current coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. had seen 1 million unemployment claims only once in the history, according to available data of the Labor Department, in the week ending Jan. 9, 1982. At that time, about 1,073,500 Americans filed unemployment claims. According to an outplacement firm Challenger Gray & Christmas Inc. there were 2.3 million jobs cut in the year 2020, only half were due to the corona pandemic outbreak in the United States in the beginning of last year.

The Corona pandemic out break has caused the huge population joblessness around the globe since the start of 2020. The pandemic hit hard the United States along with other several European countries. Over the months continuous lockdown of businesses, industries, Schools, airlines, and other daily activities of life pushed the huge business giants into the financial crisis. Most of the firms went to minimize their losses by cut down in their work force.

Due the jobs cut by businesses and private firms, a huge bulk of population became unemployed and it added the burden on Social Security and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the government. Trump administration awarded $ 600 in direct payments to all Americans affected by pandemic with additional $ 300 federal boost from March 2020 through its corona stimulus package. The Biden administration passed Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 during recent days. Under new act, an automatic, additional payment of $300 per week has been authorized until March 14, 2021 to everyone qualified for unemployment benefits.

Despite the ever highest numbers of employment, the United States government had done significant to provide relief to vulnerable segment of American society, however, unemployment make it difficult for the government to provide the cent percent needs of jobless people, but, it can do a little for them. On other hand, it is quite difficult for jobless to manage their livelihood in the country like the United States, where whole business of life runs on monthly home installments, utilities bills, insurance payments and food etc. Certainly, government assistance provides a support for a jobless to face the crisis.
