UN HR office raises alarm over 6 abductees

KABUL (Tolo News): A spokesperson for the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner said that the office is “gravely concerned” over the safety of six people who have been abducted in Kabul in connection with the recent women’s rights protest. In a press briefing the office spokesperson said that despite the Islamic Emirate’s announcement of an investigation into the disappearance of these individuals, there is still no information on their whereabouts.
The report said that Parwana Ibrahimkhil and Tamana Paryani were abducted and taken from their house on January 19, three days after they participated in a demonstration advocating for the rights of women to be respected. The report says: “We call on the de facto authorities to publicly report on the findings of their investigation into the abduction and disappearance of these women activists and their relatives, to take all possible measures to ensure their safe and immediate release, and to hold those responsible to account.”
The report urged the Islamic Emirate’s officials to guarantee that all reports of this nature are investigated promptly and effectively and take action to hold those behind the abduction accountable. “All those who may be arbitrarily detained for exercising their rights must be promptly released.”
