UN supports 80 women in handicraft industry

KABUL (Khaama Press): The United Nations Women’s Organization has announced that, with its support, one woman has paved the way for 80 other women to enter the handicraft industry.
On Monday, the organization revealed in a message on its social media platform X about the investment of an Afghan woman supported by this institution in the country.
Salma, one of the women who, with the support of the United Nations Women’s section, managed to provide opportunities for 80 other women, stated in a conversation with this organization, “Although I don’t have a good education, I am proud of myself. As a woman, I can execute projects, and I can teach others.”
The organization attributes Salma’s success to “determination, self-esteem, and respect.”
Salma also expressed her gratitude to the organization, emphasizing, “Thanks to the UN Women’s section, I started working with their support.”
The UN Women’s section has not provided details about the location and cost of these jobs.
The World Bank previously announced the allocation of $16 million to support small businesses, focusing on women-led businesses in Afghanistan.
According to Melinda Good, the head of the World Bank in Afghanistan, “The goal of this project is to strengthen the small financial sector in Afghanistan so that owners of small businesses and women-led businesses can access the financial credit needed to rebuild their businesses, reconstruct their lives, and help revive the private sector.”
This comes as support for women in the private sector, especially in investment and trade, has increased from international institutions.
