UNAMA chief in Iran to discuss situation in Afghanistan

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Tadamichi Yamamoto, chief of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), is in Tehran for a two-day visit to discuss the situation in Afghanistan with Iranian and international officials, UNAMA said.

Iran is recognized as an important country in the Afghan peace process and has repeatedly emphasized the Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process.

Before his visit to Iran, Yamamoto also met with Chinese envoy to Afghanistan Wang Yu on Sunday and discussed the Afghan peace process with ambassador. Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu said in his twitter account that Afghanistan’s peace and stability is important to regional stability and development.

“China always supports the “Afghan-led, Afghan-owned” reconciliation process, and is willing to work with the international community to offer more help to the country’s peaceful reconciliation,” Ambassador Wang Yu tweeted.(TOLOnews)
