Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl’s Travel to Israel, Bahrain, and United Arab Emirates

WASHINGTON: Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl departed for international travel to the Middle East, November 14. He arrived in Israel today with follow-on visits to Bahrain and United Arab Emirates this week.

In Israel, Under Secretary Kahl will meet with senior members of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, lead the U.S. delegation to the Defense Policy Advisory Group to discuss shared security interests, and visit some of Israel’s most innovative defense technology companies to see demonstrations of cutting-edge emerging and critical capabilities.

In Bahrain, he will deliver remarks and participate in counterpart engagements at the International Institute for Strategic Studies Manama Dialogue. The event provides a critical forum to exchange international perspectives, and Under Secretary Kahl will discuss efforts to enhance partnerships in the Middle East to advance common security objectives. He will also visit the headquarters of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain, and Task Force 59.  The command operates the U.S. Fifth Fleet and leads the Combined Maritime Forces, a multi-national naval partnership that promotes security, stability and prosperity across approximately 3.2 million square miles of international waters, encompassing some of the world’s most consequential shipping lanes.

In United Arab Emirates, Under Secretary Kahl will lead the U.S. delegation at the annual Joint Military Dialogue (JMD) that will focus on strengthening bilateral relationships and regional security. The JMD is the foremost bilateral defense forum for advancing the U.S.-UAE defense partnership, including shared security interests and a wide range of objectives for the relationship.

Throughout his travels, Under Secretary Kahl will reinforce the importance of working closely with Allies and partners to strengthen global security, prosperity, and the rules-based international order.
