RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators will clash in an exhibition match at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi on February 15.

“We want to launch this pre-tournament match to create an excitement ahead for the event – PSL.

This will be happening for the first time in the history of PSL,” Islamabad United’s owner Ali Naqvi told a news briefing here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Flanked by Islamabad United skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Quetta Gladiators coach Moin Khan, Naqvi said the exhibition match would be an all-star event as it would see country’s top former and current players playing from the two sides.

“The match is not aimed at generating money but to create hype for the PSL and provide entertainment to the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad,” he added.

Moin Khan on the occasion said the initiative to hold pre-PSL exhibition match was very good. “Me and Abdul Razzaq will be there in this match. Besides there will be other former stars featuring in this match. Some celebrities will also be there to create an excitement,” he added.

Moin revealed that another match between the two sides would take place in Quetta after the conclusion of third edition of the PSL. “We’ve requested Islamabad United to come to Quetta for that match. It will be very good for the people of Quetta and entire province of Balochistan,” he added.

He said Balochistan had remained neglected in the past and the match would help bring smiles to the faces of people there. “We will have to take the ownership of Quetta and Balochistan. The government and Pakistan army are doing a lot in the province. We’ve been given verbal confirmation for all sort of cooperation to hold the post-PSL exhibition match (in Quetta),” he added.

Misbah-ul-Haq on the occasion said all the teams in PSL’s third edition were comprised of talented and skilled players and the fans would see very exciting and thrilling competitions.
