The Economic Deputy PM’s office quoted Pino Arlacchi as saying, “They [the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Afghanistan] plan to hold an international conference in Kabul in the near future and attract international financial support for the alternative cultivation of poppies to Afghan farmers through this conference.”
This official of the UNODC stated that the international community has the responsibility to cooperate with the Islamic Emirate in the sector of alternative opium cultivation.
The former Executive Director of UNODC said, “The international community is obligated to cooperate with the Islamic Emirate in providing alternative poppy cultivation for Afghan farmers.”
The statement also mentioned that during this meeting, discussions and exchanges of views on the fight against drugs by the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan and the joint cooperation between Afghanistan and the international community in this field took place.
Earlier, Ashita Mittal, UNODC Regional Representative to Central Asia, expressed concern about the cultivation and production of drugs in Afghanistan.
Mittal had stated that Afghanistan has faced instability for nearly forty years, and as a result, various kinds of drugs are produced in the country.
