Unity is the only remedy

Unity is the only remedy for the malady of Pakistan

Shaukat Hayat Beneri

It is to be added for the information of my worthy  readers that  during  the last couple of decades we have become familiar with two words i.e., the word LOTA and the word MAFIA in particular . The word Lota was popular in the then government of Benazir Bhutto  when she openly blamed the opposition for changing the  loyalties of their party members  through various tactics . This horse trading or changing of party affiliation was given the name of Lotacracy or lotaism by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Similarly we today are familiar with another well saying term the word mafia being frequently quoted by PM  Imran Khan . If we look in the backdrop of the term it is no doubt a reference to the secret hands that are hell bent to dictate and oblige the government with political manipulation. It proved in the shape of the current petrol crises which definitely oblige the government machinery which ultimately  bowed down before the mafia .

It is due to this reason  that mafia and secret hands are actively operational to do whatever they like.  The poor people are totally on the mercy of this particular mafia and the government is helpless to sway control over it. Even PTI parliamentarian Raja Riaz also criticized by saying  that the prices of petroleum products were increased by Rs25 per liter in the darkness of the night. He said the government acting as facilitator of the mafia, allowed 34%hike in the fuel prices for the first time in country’s history.“This government is by the mafia, for the mafia and from the mafia,” he said, adding that the mafia prevailed upon the government.

The other days, the Petrol Pumps were shut down to make a profit as prices rose. With the news of increase in the prices of petroleum products, long queues of vehicles started appearing at the petrol pumps. Citizens started questioning the government’s writ. Some petrol pump owners across Punjab, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and the Twin Cities, closed their petrol pumps and stopped selling them to make full profits. Due to the rush, traffic was jammed in many cities.  The government had increased the prices of petroleum products four days ago. The consumers rushed to take advantage of cheap oil for the last time.

In response, the citizens said that the government has knelt before the oil marketing companies. Only two months after the reduction in prices, oil is being made more expensive. Similarly after the increase in the prices of petrol products, now the price of LPG has also been increased at Rs 5 per kg. Other state-owned marketing companies, including PSO, Parco, SSGC and Fan Gas, also stepped up LPG prices. LPG prices were also increased by marketing companies on June 23, 2020. On Saturday, the price of LPG was increased by Rs 5 per kg, after which the price of domestic cylinders has been increased by Rs 50 and the price of commercial cylinder byRs 200.

There is no doubt that Pakistan is a strong country in respect of defense.. Today we are the 5th nuclear power of the world which is of course a matter of pride for us. We have an abundance of all kinds of resources. But still we have to confront the worst economic and political debacle of all the times. The country where a labor or a pit man goes to bed with an empty stomach cannot make progress and development as compared to the other developed and progressive states of the world.

Almighty Allah has bestowed all his blessings upon Pakistan. But in spite of all these blessings and gifts we are living in a state of slavery and servitude. Therefore we are unable to view and judge the beauty, charm, the mantle and spiritual capability expanding in our surrounding. Pakistan is the fifth biggest nuclear state of the world fully equipped with the mettle of scientists and engineers. But in spite of all such blessings, my countrymen are passing through a state of darkness and ignorance.

Pakistan is an agricultural country we can yield and produce enough quantum of wheat and maize to export to other countries of the world. But very sadly to say we have to confront an acute food shortage all the time. Besides, our gas reservoirs stand 6th in Asia. We are enriched with gas reservoirs but still the excessive load shedding continues unabated for the domestic and CNG consumers. So we are compelled to export gas from Iran at an exorbitant rate so as to fulfill our needs and demands.

Moreover there also found vast reservoirs of gold and copper at Ricodac

in Balochistan. Its value has been estimated in billions. But ironically we are running our domestic affairs by taking huge tranches of debt from IMF and World Bank. The gold mine in Balochistan is stated to be 5th in the world. But still the gold prices have jumped up with an alarming proportion of 65000 per Tula. There also exist vast reservoirs of oil and gas in Pakistan.

According to available estimates the reservoirs of oil are billion barrels while that of gas is trillion cubic/feet. But in spite of all these the petroleum prices have touched the highest point. Then the canal system of Pakistan is also considered to be the best in the world.

It is the largest in the world. territory wise Pakistan is 1/3 of Russia but its canal system is 1/3 bigger than Russian one. Every year million cusecs of our water get wasted by falling down in Arabian sea.We have no water for our irrigation but India is hell bent to withhold Pakistan’s share of water thus causing a water crisis for Pakistan.

Tourism can prove to be the major source of our income generation. There exist ample opportunities for tourism. We have even more beautiful and scenic spots and resorts of tourism than Switzerland. But in spite of all, the influx of tourists is less than other countries of south Asia.

Now the question arises why did Pakistan  not show any progress and strength  in its economic spheres despite being enriched with huge natural resources. The per capita income is less than 2 dollar despite having immense potentiality and capabilities of resources and manpower generation.

Excessive power outage has become a routine matter. People are compelled to commit suicide due to extreme poverty and starvation. Pakistan is no longer a poor country. Plunderers and looters are busy day in, day out to plunder its wealth with both hands but still the country survives and lives in the comity of the nations.

The people of this land are also hardworking. They work up to 12 hours a day. But in spite of all we have remained far behind in the race of progress and development as compared to other countries of the world. Let us pledge to make it a strong and prosperous state of the world by exhibiting unity and solidarity among our ranks.
