UNSC delegation calls on President

KABUL: A delegation of United Nations Security Council called on President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani.

The UNSC delegation led by Kazakhstan Ambassador Kairat Umarov in UN held detailed discussion on Afghanistan and regional situation with the Afghan president.

Besides regional and Afghanistan security situation, the meeting also discussed regional cooperation, terrorism, administrative corruption in Afghanistan, counter-narcotics efforts, peace process, election preparations, reforms in governance, strengthening system, women participation, UN role in Afghanistan, especially in security and development were discussed during the meeting.

A press release issued by Presidential Palace said the meeting stressed the need of increasing pressure on neighbor country for stability in Afghanistan and joints steps for talks.

About regional relations, the Afghan president said that Afghanistan was enjoyinggood economic relations with central Asia, Russia, China and Iran and also trying to improve relations with Pakistan.

He shared with the delegation documents and proof of funding and training of terrorist groups including Daesh from outside Afghanistan.

Similarly, he said the government was committed to holding elections and did not allow anyone to interfere in the affairs of the election commission.

Stressing the need of inter-Afghan peace talks and peace with Pakistan, the Afghan president said they were learning from the experiences of other countries for stability of peace in Afghanistan.

The delegation assured support to the development and peace in Afghanistan and hailed national unity government’s achievement in different sectors, especially the sacrifices of Afghan security forces.
