UoP convocation: VC confers degrees to session 2016 students

PESHAWAR: A long-awaited convocation for the session 2016 students was held at the convocation hall, University of Peshawar (UOP) on Friday morning to award 323 degrees to the graduating students.

The Vice Chancellor (VC) UOP, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan presided over the function in place of  chancellor and governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shah Farman  who regretted participating in the convocation due to pressing engagements in Islamabad.

VC Bannu University Prof. Dr. Syed Abid Ali Shah, Pro- VC UOP, Registrar UOP Dr. Fazal Hadi, Deans of various faculties, and teaching staff were present on the occasion.       

Majority of the gold medalists requested the VC to honor their parents by decorating their parents with gold medals instead of themselves.

A total of 25 gold medalists were awarded at the ceremony along with 12 PhD scholars and 9 M Phil degrees.

In his convocation address, VC UOP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif khan conveyed chancellors’ felicitations to the graduate students and their parents.

He said that UOP is the mother institution of the province and provide quality education to the students.   

He added that  despite being at financial odds, the University administration had allocated 100 million rupees worth scholarship for students to continue their education adding that the university had generated 400 million rupees through reforms, austerity and operational-cuts to be self-reliant.

He maintained that the University was adopting modern teaching methods to bring the educational standard of the institute at par with the international level.   

“700 Wifi- Internet points and 1400 close circuit cameras had been installed in the university premises while steps were also being taken to expand the base of information technology”. he said.        

Vice Chancellor called upon the students to serve society and country at large with dignity and devotion.

Those who received gold-medals included Mahalqa Rubab of Geography department, Fatima Khatoon of  Urdu department, Nazish Syed of MBA department, Rukhsar Majeed of Human Resource Management department, Saiha Bano of Electronics department, Zarfishan Khan Sikanderi of Political Science department, Iqra Sharif of Pharmacy department, Kashmala Khalid Khan of Regional Studies, Sidra Tahir of Botany department, Zainab Iqbal of Chemistry department, Sadia Irfan of Zoology department, Jan Gul of Archaeology department, Ibad Urrehman of Pashto department, Muhammad Atif of Computer Science department, Qaiser Khan of Statistics department, Fidaullah of Islamiyat department, Asif Khan of Social Work department, Asad Yaqoob Mian of Physics department, Azmat Khan of Journalism department, Naeemullah Baig of Anthropology, Annum Babar of Disaster Management department, Saba Gul of Commerce department, Kinza Nawaz of Environmental Sciences department, Fatima Mamoor of Sociology department, and Zainab Kanwal Atta of Economics department. The University of Peshawar will hold 2017 and 2018 session convocations during the current year 2019.
